When you come for some weeks or some month to Boskanter, you might have a lot of questions about what you will need and what is or is not appropriate to bring, so here is a useful list:

What to bring

Bring personal clothing and equipment and:

  • a torch
    • headlamp is easy, because it leaves your hands free
    • to go to the outdoor toilet or to the other buildings when it’s dark
  • indoor slippers (or socks or barefoot)
  • swimming suit
    • not necessary for Boskanter activities, but there’s a swimming pool in Brakel where you might want to go
    • some people prefer to wear it in the sauna, but it’s not obliged
  • rain gear
    • We have some on the project that can get dirty, but perhaps you like to bring your own
  • We will put all laundry together to use the laundry machine in an efficient manner. To make it easy for clothes to find back their owner, it’s a good idea to bring socks, underwear and other clothing that is clearly distinguishable as yours, or to label them.
  • sturdy (hiking) shoes that can be dirty (for some of the work, but also because this is a nice hiking area)
  • backpack
    • because that the best way to reach us over the path from the bus stop
    • in summer we organise a hike for the summer team; then you need a backpack that is comfortable to wear and can hold your own material plus a sleeping bag and mattress
  • something to share from your country.
    • we do not explicitly organize a moment of exchange, so it’s only if you like it
    • if you want to bring something, see if you can find something sustainable (truly local, so no chocolate from Europe 😊, not too much package, …)
  • if you want to share your skills/knowledge about a topic relevant to this place; bring what you need or check beforehand if we have what you need.
  • clothes fit for working
    • they can get dirty or ripped; we have some clothes here, but not sure if they fit (size or tast 😊)
    • we try to avoid full sun, but something light with long sleeves protects better and is more sustainable than sunscreen

What not to bring

  • because we have them here
    • Rubber boots
    • Guitar, piano, flute, violin, clarinet, djembé
    • Towels
    • Working gloves, except if you prefer your own
    • sleeping bag, camping mattress, hiking tent
    • bed linen
  • Trailer or suitcase; a backpack works better on the dirt road from the bus stop to the farm.
  • Non-biodegradable soap, toothpaste, …
    • we can also give you some
  • Perfume, deodorant
    • except if you want it when you go ‘out’
  • electric hair-drier or toothbrush
