Boskanter is a volunteer organization. There is a lot of potential, both on the grounds and in the garden, as well as digitally, socially, educationally, and politically. The more of us there are, the more we achieve. All help is welcome. We just need to keep up with the support, so assistance is needed there as well.
Who can come and volunteer?
Volunteers from the (distant) neighborhood can drop by now and then, but they can also stay for a while, like the international volunteers. Furthermore, volunteers can be practically divided into:
- short-term volunteers who help where needed but require support and have little say
- long-term volunteers who help keep things running, contribute ideas, and partially run their own projects
Insurance
All volunteers are insured for accidents on the way to Boskanter (within Belgium), and for civil liability. ESC volunteers also benefit from this insurance for the part of their journey outside Belgium.
Reimbursements
Volunteers receive reimbursement for actual expenses (for example, if they go to buy a spade for Boskanter). After consultation and in exceptional cases, local volunteers may also receive reimbursement for their travel expenses, or a flat-rate expense allowance (not compatible with reimbursement of actual expenses per calendar year). Volunteers within the ESC program receive €6 ‘pocket money’ per day and an allowance of €2.50 per day for outings. Dirk and Ine work as volunteers to supervise daily operations, NPO administration, workshops, repairs and renovations, etc. They issue a limited invoice (as self-employed individuals) for ESC administration and communication, some (machine) gardening work, and coaching the volunteers.
